A train of nuclear waste left France for Belgium

ENVIRONMENT - This is the second of its kind, and still counting ...

A new " train hell"? A train of nuclear waste compacted for Belgium left the railway terminal Valognes (Channel, north) to 1:15 at night, officials said Thursday morning from Areva. According to a spokesman for the group, contacted by AFP, that transportation consists of "containment" of nuclear waste and not waste themselves. "The metal structure (of containers) has been compacted," and it is these elements that are returned to Belgium.
This is the second movement of this kind to Belgium a total of nine that run through until 2013, Areva said. The first was in June 2010. These transports are part of an agreement with the Belgian agency for radioactive waste and enriched fissile materials (Ondraf).
